After the excellent performance of UPCM and SHS-Palo in the physicians' board exam, the University is proud to announce that both the UP College Nursing and the UP School of Health Sciences-Leyte earned high marks in the July 2011 Nurse Licensure Examination. In addition, UPCN got six Top Ten Posts, including the highest spot.
Chancellor Ramon L. Arcadio was very pleased with the achievements of both CN Dean Araceli Balabagno and SHS Dean Jusie Siega Sur. Arcadio also noted that the step-ladder curriculum originated by UPM really does work.
UPCN posted a 100% passing rate (57/57), while UP-SHS had 93.33% (14/15).
UPCN's top placers were Jomel Garcia Lapides (1st Place – 88.40%), Kim Carmela Dee Co (4th Place – 87%), Raymark Domingo Salonga (5th Place – 86.80%), Maria Jalyssa Pascua Tan (6th Place – 86.60%), Bianca Malilay Velando (7th Place – 86.40%), and Alvin Duke Roberto Sy (8th Place – 86.20%). With the exception of Lapides, all other UPM top placers shared their spots with several graduates from other schools.
These 71 passers from UPM were among the 37,513 board examinees who made it through the licensure examination given by the Board of Nursing of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last July 2011. The passers are less than half of the 78,135 who took the exam in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, La Union, Legazpi, Lucena, Nueve Ecija, Pagadian, Pampanga, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.
